International District

The International District, extending from San Mateo to Wyoming, has been pockmarked in recent history with reports of high crime, poverty and other undesirable indicators. However, residents of the area also stand to benefit the most from the ART project as the International District is filled with a high percentage of transit dependent individuals. It will be receiving three ART stations: San Mateo, San Pedro and Louisiana. East of Louisiana, the existing Rapid Ride stations at each major intersection will continue to be used by the new ART buses. The historically dangerous Zuni Road has received a road diet, slowing down automobile traffic and adding bike lanes. In addition, there is a strong network of public health non-profits working closely with many stakeholders in this neighborhood. Overall, this is a complex and challenged area and more residents must be brought into the conversation about the changes happening on Central and become a part of its evolution.

Neighborhood associations within the International District include:

  • Fair West
  • La Mesa
  • South San Pedro
  • Trumbull Village
  • Elder Homestead
  • Siesta Hills
